Meaning and Importance of yoga



Indeed it is an astonishing fact that a yogic tradition which is more than five thousand years old has recently become a very popular way of life.Presently,people consider yoga as a means to achieve a healthy as well as positive lifestyle.
As a matter of fact, yoga helps in improving our flexibility,reduces stress and increases our confidence and finally contributes to a healthy lifestyle.

Meaning of yoga 

Yoga is derived from a Sanskrit word 'YUJ' which means to unite or join.
It is the unification of 'Aatma' with 'Parmatma'.

Following are some more definition:

💨"Lord Krishna says in bhagwad gita "skill in actions or efficiency alone is yoga"

Importance of yoga

It is universal truth that modern age is the of stress,tension and anxiety.Most of us are living an unhealthy life.In order to get rid of this,Yoga can be significant for us.The following points clearly show the importance of yoga:-
  1. Physical purity-Internal organs of our body can be cleaned by various yogic exercises.Basically,there are three substances in our body i.e vaat,pitt and kaph. If there is a proper balance of these substances in our body,we can remain  healthy.Neti,dhouti,nauli.Basti,kapalbhati etc are yogic exercises or shatkarmas that keeps our internal organs in clean state.
  2.  Cure and prevention of diseases-There are various diseases which usually hamper the smooth functioning of our body. Yoga not only protects us from many diseases but also cures them.                                                                                                                                                As far as today's situations are concerned , strong immunity is the need of the hour.
  3. Reduces mental tensions - Yoga helps in reducing tension. it is a well known fact that most people are mentally under stress and tension. they do not get peace anywhere. Makrasana,Shavashana,Shalabhasana,Suptesana, and bhujangasana are benificial for releasing stress and tension.
  4. Helps maintain the correct posture of body- nowadays postural deformities are common in individuals without good posture they are unable to do their work efficiently. if we perform yogic asanas regularly we can maintain the correct posture of our body.
  5. Increases flexibility- Flexibility is significant for every person. it makes the movement of body efficient and graceful. Bhujangasana and Shalabhasana are beneficial for increasing flexibility.
  6. Reduces obesity- Obesity is worldwide problem and yoga is the solution.Yogic exercises helps in reducing obesity. For example, Pranayama and specially meditative asanas reduce obesity.    So by going through all the importance of yoga we can conclude that yoga is significant for mankind specially in present situation.
